Houdini 19 New Feature Examples
I did several tests for various different features introduced into Houdini 19. The Curve node, Vellum Unified Multi-Solver, KineFX Key Pose Extraction, and Pyro.
Curve Node
The new updates to the Curve node is super impressive! I feel like I’m using illustrator but with 3D elements inside Houdini!
I tried some experiments using the Curve node for surface modeling and tried to model the feet of this simplified biped robot to see if it would work out.

There are some lovely updates done to the pyro system in Houdini, now we have the convenience of setting up an entire Pyro simulation by dropping down 1 menu from the TAB. I think this improves the workflow a lot. It’s much easier to start with a ready to go Pyro simulation and then slowly tweak and change the parameters settings. You may get a completely different setup after tweaking and changing everything, but to be able to have something to work with at the beginning is a lot easier.
Vellum Unified Multi-Solver
To be able to use Fluids, Grains, Cloth, and Rigid Body is probably every Houdini-ist’s dream. How many times have we suffered trying to come up with new ways to make RBD talk to FLIP Fluids or RBD to interact with Vellum clothes. I even did a video on faking the interaction between Vellum and RBD.
